2020 was wild. During the Labor Day holiday, I found myself on a houseboat on Lake Shasta trippin’ balls with smoke-filled skies from the ongoing wildfires. This is important because during that trip, I made a pivotal decision to change my life by: 1) Saying “No” to anything that does not elevate my creative practice, and 2) Creating unapologetically and from the soul. No more worrying about what looks good. Just create.
The weeks following the trip, I felt pent-up and frustrated to a degree. I had assignments and a job breathing down my neck but I had to put all that to the side and release what I was feeling on canvas. The result was a quiet storm of my imagination — perfect with mistakes, interpretations, and all that comes with being uniquely me.
After the first piece was finished, I stepped back and breathed a sigh of release and excitement. I found it. My style. My truest essence expressed in my language of abstract petal-block compositions. Nature + Urban settings entangled, dancing, and grappling to achieve balance. It feels good to be here. It took me 11 years to make it to this point.
