Every artist should have a flower in their arsenal, one of their go-to subjects that is popular amongst their supporters. While I continue to study some of my favorites such as roses, peonies, and chrysanthemums, I was fortunate enough to discover the protea via a commission. The protea family of flowers are native to South Africa and are super diverse and resilient. Sound familiar?

What do protea's mean to me? I’m not sure yet. I do like the idea of a resilient African flower. South Africa is one of my favorite places to live. So that’s good enough at the moment. As I continue to research and explore, I’m sure more understanding will come my way.
